Most Syndies Fizzle in Week Ending July 4

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending July 4, 2021.

Other than rookie Drew Barrymore (0.5 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 25% from the week before) and the long-running Dr Oz (0.6, up 20%) none of the daytime syndies popped in the session ending on the Fourth of July.

“Barrymore” rose despite being one of several shows in repeats all week, drawing a crowd of more than 650,000 viewers each day.  Season to date the newcomer already outperforms more than 40 of the established syndicated programs on the national chart.

Veteran “Dr. Oz” is in its 12^th season. Host Dr. Mehmet Oz recently appeared behind the podium on “Jeopardy.”

Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.6, down 6%), the talk show leader for eight straight weeks, was on hiatus and aired only repackaged episodes.

Dr. Phil (1.4, unchanged), also in reruns, snared second place. All of the 12 other talkers were below a 1.0 rating.

Many of the morning and afternoon shows were partially or completely blown out by coverage of Bill Cosby’s release from prison on June 30 and the announcement of charges against the Trump Organization on July 1.

In access time periods, Jeopardy (4.9, unchanged) was guest-hosted for the first of two weeks by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

Family Feud (5.4, down 8%) led the game shows. Wheel of Fortune (4.5, down 4%) was third.
