“Jeopardy” cashes in on final full week of James Holzhauer

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending June 2.

The final frame of James Holzhauer’s 32-episode, $2.46-million winning streak on Jeopardy! (7.9 live plus same day national Nielsen, up 1% from the week before) turned the game show ratings race for the session ending June 2 into a rout for the Alex Trebek-hosted quizzer.

Jeopardy!” hit a four week high and blew away genre rivals Family Feud (6.1, up 2%), Wheel of Fortune (5.9, down 3%), and Who Wants to be a Millionaire (1.5, down 6%) in the Memorial Day holiday week.

Of course Holzhauer, the most dominant “Jeopardy!” player in years, went on to a shocking loss in his 33rd game on June 3.

Syndication’s No. 1 show of the season Judge Judy (6.5, down 4%), which had defeated “Jeopardy!” in the May sweep, went into reruns for part of the week and finished the frame with the second highest rating overall.

Among talk shows Dr. Phil (2.4, down 14%) aired a full five days of repeats, but still led the 14-program category for the 143rd week in a row.

Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.1, down 5%) tightened its grip on second place, topping Ellen DeGeneres (1.7, down 15%) for the 14thstraight week.

Among those in the hunt were Wendy Williams (1.3, down 7%), Maury (1.3, down 7%) and reruns of Steve Harvey’s Steve (1.1, steady).

Back in access most of the top tier magazines headed south in the lightly-viewed holiday session. TMZ (1.2, unchanged) and Extra (1.0, steady) were the only shows of the big six able to avoid weekly losses.

The strip showing the most improvement of the week was Dateline (1.3, up 30%), which captured the top spot in the true crime genre for the 38th consecutive week. Off-net procedural Chicago PD (1.0, up 11%) was also a strong performer.
