Entertainment Magazines Move Up

Entertainment Magazines Move Up

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending May 30, 2021.

Entertainment magazines were the hot spots while most programs in the other genres went sideways or down in the session ending May 30.

Despite news preemptions in some California cities for the May 26 rail yard mass shooting both Access Hollywood (1.0 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 11% from the week before) and Extra (0.7, up 17%) scored double digit improvement. Entertainment Tonight (2.1, up 5%) set the pace and finished first in the category.

Game shows did not have much fun. Family Feud (5.4, down 2%) lost ground but still beat Jeopardy (5.1, unchanged) with former star contestant Buzzy Cohen at the podium and its “Tournament of Champions” finale. Wheel of Fortune (4.8, down 4%) also slowed down.

In daytime Judge Judy (5.2, steady) was the supreme court show by far and the second highest program overall.

Top talker Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.7, steady) nipped Dr Phil (1.6, unchanged) for a second straight week. Of note, newcomer Drew Barrymore (0.5, steady) resisted any decline and attracted nearly 650,000 daily viewers even though it went from all originals into all repeats.
