“Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek’s final week surges 29% to season high

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending January 10, 2021.

Jeopardy (new season high 6.6 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 29% from the week before) saw its ratings spike in its final week with its iconic host Alex Trebek, the session ending January 10, 2021.

Capping a more than 36-year run, Trebek had taped his final programs just 10 days before he died of pancreatic cancer on November 8, 2020.

The strong numbers for Trebek’s finale may also have boosted “Jeopardy’s” companion show in most large markets, Wheel of Fortune (new season high 6.0, up 18%).

Usual game show leader Family Feud (5.1, down 4%) was next in line.

The top daytime program remained Judge Judy (5.6, up 10%), which is currently the household ratings leader among all syndicated shows season to date in this its 25th and final year in first-run.

Topping the talkers for a seventh straight week was Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.0, down 5%) with Dr. Phil (1.8, up 6%) not far behind.

Jumping into third place, Kelly Clarkson (1.0, up 11%) tallied the big three talker’s largest percentage increase, nailing veteran Maury (1.0, down 9%).

Among the major entertainment magazines Entertainment Tonight (2.3, up 10%) grew and Access Hollywood (1.0), TMZ (0.8) and Extra (season high 0.7) all held their ground despite blackouts for coverage of the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot.
