“Dr. Phil” tops talk for 150 straight weeks

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending July 21.

“Oprah” may have left the building, but the talk show queen’s most successful spin-off, Dr. Phil (2.2 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, steady with the week before) has entered the current syndication record books. Dr. Phil McGraw’s show drew a crowd of nearly three million daily viewers and finished first among talkers for the 150th week in a row in the session ending July 21.

Making the feat even more impressive, “Phil” has been completely in reruns for eight straight weeks.

Coming in second for the 21st consecutive week was Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.9, steady).

Rounding out the top five in the 14-program category, first-run’s largest, were Ellen DeGeneres (1.4, down 7%), Maury (1.2, unchanged) and Wendy Williams (1.2, unchanged).

At the very top of the chart, syndication’s No. 1 show in the household ratings, Judge Judy (6.3, steady), despite being in reruns on two of the days blew away all competition for the second week in a row and drew more than 8.6-million viewers each day on average.

Magazines mostly held their own week to week, while Access (1.1, up 10% from last year) scored the largest annual increase in the genre.

The top quiz and give-away strips were a mixed bag. Family Feud (6.0, up 2%) led the field. Jeopardy (5.5, down 2%) and Wheel of Fortune (5.1, down 2%) followed.

In the metered markets, comedic game show wannabe Punchline (0.3/1 weighted average on select Fox stations, off 50% from its lead-ins and down 40% from its year-ago time periods) completed the second of a six-week run that began July 15.
