Court Shows Win Favorable Verdicts

Court Shows Win Favorable Verdicts

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending October 23, 2022.

The top three courtroom strips were syndication’s strongest performers in the session ending October 23, retaining robust increases despite having to compete against, or being preempted by, six Major League Baseball playoff games.

Judge Judy (4.1 live plus same day national Nielsen, up 8% from the week before) saw its winning streak continue as it swung the category’s biggest ratings gavel for the 1,361st consecutive week with an average of more than 6,000,000 total viewers each day.

Hot Bench (new season high 1.3, up 8%) tallied its best ratings since August, followed by People’s Court (new season high 0.8, up 14%).

Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.6, steady) remained at its season high and led the talkers for the 22nd week in a row, including ties.

Dr. Phil (1.4, up 8%) snared second place, while Kelly Clarkson (0.9, steady) took third.

Drew Barrymore (0.8, steady, up 50% among W25-54) captured the largest audience since the show’s 2020 debut for its full-hour George Clooney exclusive interview on October 21.  Nationally, the Clooney episode attracted more than 1.36-million viewers.

Other bright spots included Tamron Hall (0.7, steady), which also grew 50% in the key W25-54 demo, and talk’s highest-rated new entries Sherri (0.7, unchanged) and Jennifer Hudson (0.6, steady).  Hudson had to overcome October 19 playoff preemptions in Los Angeles and other major markets but was not to be denied, outperforming Nick Cannon — the show it mainly replaced — by 50%.

Rookie Karamo (0.3, steady) was also able to avoid any rating declines.
