Sophomore Tamron Hall (new season high 0.9 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 29% from the week before) had the strongest increase of all programs in the session ending October 25, which was a big week for most of syndication’s top chat shows. The highly regarded talker also surged 33% in the advertiser-coveted W25-54 age group and has already been renewed for year three by its launch group, the ABC stations.
Dr. Phil (new season high 2.0, up 5%) ruled the roost, finishing first in the talk category for the 200th time in the past 216 weeks.
Right behind was Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.9, up 19%), which has been neck and neck with “Phil” all season.
Ellen DeGeneres (1.1, unchanged) declined 39% from the same week last year.
Jumping into fourth place was Kelly Clarkson (1.0, up 11%), which matched its season high while increasing 25% in the past two weeks.
Judge Judy (5.1, down 6%) easily led all of daytime and ruled the court shows for the 1,257th straight week.
The first three games of baseball’s World Series and two Monday football contests caused preemptions for shows such as “Judy” in early fringe and access strips. Nevertheless Inside Edition (2.3, up 5%) and Entertainment Tonight (2.2, up 10%) scored gains. Also worthy of note were Access Hollywood (1.0, steady) and Extra (0.7, steady).
The popular Billy Bush-hosted “Extra” captured sole possession of fourth place among magazines for the first time this season as its W25-54 demo mushroomed 33% even though it was blacked out by sports and the final presidential debate an extraordinary 70 times in the top 20 markets alone.
