Extra (0.6 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 20% from the week before) and TMZ (0.7, up 17%) were the only first-run shows anywhere in access to score double digit increases against game one of the World Series in the session ending October 30.
The game in the World Series, which was carried by Fox, caused numerous preemptions. For example, Extra lost its primary run to baseball in five of the top six markets on October 28, including in both New York and Los Angeles.
Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.5, down 6%) remained at the top of the talk show class for the 23rd straight week, including eight ties.
Drew Barrymore (0.8, up 60% from last year) had its most-watched week ever, piling up an average 1,332,000 viewers each day, which was a daily increase of 78,000 over the prior week. Additionally, the show will be getting a big upgrade in No. 2 market Los Angeles. Also in the plus column year over year was Tamron Hall (0.7, up 17% from last year).
Among newcomers in the news, Sherri (0.7, unchanged, up 33% among W25-54 to 0.4) and Jennifer Hudson (0.6, steady, up 50% among W25-54 to 0.3) set the pace. Hudson matched its series high in the advertiser-coveted demo and grew 4% in total viewers to a daily average of 925,000. Karamo (0.3, steady) was also sharp, holding its ground for a sixth consecutive week.
