Strong Summer Start for Syndies

Strong Summer Start for Syndies

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending June 27, 2021.

Entertainment magazines were syndication’s best performers in a good week for access shows as summer got underway in the session ending June 27.

Entertainment Tonight (2.0 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 11% from the week before) set the pace among the category’s top shows.

Access Hollywood (0.8, up 14%) tied TMZ (0.8, up 14%). Extra (four-week high 0.7, up 17%) also joined the ratings party.

Elsewhere in the highly-viewed time periods a second week with Savannah Guthrie at the podium resulted in an uptick for Jeopardy (4.9, up 4%). Family Feud (5.9, up 4%) continued to rule the game shows.

In daytime some shows were preempted by coverage of Derek Chauvin’s sentencing and the Surfside condo collapse in Florida.  Programs were also faced with Wimbledon competition on cable.

Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.7, steady) easily led the talk shows for the seventh week in a row and was one of the few to hold all of its ratings from last year at this time. Dr. Phil (1.4, down 7%) was in reruns on all five days but still took second place.  No other talker ranked above a 1.0 in households.
