‘Live’ Leads Talk for 29th Week

‘Live’ Leads Talk for 29th Week

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending December 11, 2022.

Competing against three days of heavily-watched World Cup soccer in the session ending December 11 was no problem for talk show titan Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.6 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 7% from the week before), which topped the talkers for a 29th straight week (including eight ties) with an average 2,357,000 viewers each day.

Live, which was the hotly-contested category’s only show in the first six moving up, matched its highest household rating of the season and surged 20% to lead the field in the advertiser-coveted W25-54 demographic (0.6 demo rating).

The World Cup matches, which ran for 21 hours, caused numerous daytime preemptions and schedule changes. In fact, at least nine shows were retitled during the tournament so as to have their ratings removed from their season averages.

Among the top tier talk shows being slowed down by the games were second place Dr. Phil (1.3, down 7%), Kelly Clarkson (0.9, down 10%) and Tamron Hall (0.7, down 13%).

Extra (0.6, up 20%) had the best percentage increase among the magazines, matching its season high, despite losing its primary run to the World Cup in five of the top 15 markets on one or more days during the week.
