“Clarkson” clicks for 25% increase as several daytime strips climb
Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending June 14.
Although syndicated television viewing fell to its lowest level of the year in the session ending June 14 while preemptions for coronavirus coverage and the George Floyd funeral overshadowed numerous programs, a handful of daytime shows staged sharp rallies.
The season’s top-rated rookie Kelly Clarkson (1.0 live plus same day national Nielsen, up 25% from the week before) scored the biggest increase among all programs on the chart even though the highly regarded strip was in repeats on four of the five days. The show’s host Kelly Clarkson, the most famous “American Idol” winner, will be honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame next year.
Turning to the established talkers, Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.9, down 5%) finished first for the second week in a row.
Dr Phil (1.8, up 20%) made it close with a furious charge despite being in reruns all week.
Next in line were Ellen DeGeneres (1.2, unchanged) and Maury (1.1, up 10%).
Far in front of the daytime field was courtroom star Judge Judy (5.3, down 2%), which was completely in repeats but continued to lead the legal shows for the 1,238th straight week.
Also generating some ratings steam was gaveler Hot Bench (2.0, up 5%), which aired four days of encore episodes but still ranked as the second highest show in daytime behind only “Judy.”
In access time periods, the only one of the seven magazines able to overcome preemptions and avoid any declines was Daily Mail TV (0.8, steady), which raced ahead 33% in the coveted W25-54 demo and tied Extra (0.8, down 11%).
