Talkers stage rating rallies

Talkers stage rating rallies

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending May 16, 2021.

Talk shows made most of the big moves in the session ending May 16.

Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.8 live plus same day national Nielsen, up 6% from the week before) leapt into a first-place tie with the previous week’s leader Dr. Phil (1.8, steady).

Sophomore Tamron Hall (0.8, up 14%) clocked the best percentage gain of the top six, jumping into a dead heat with fellow second-year star Kelly Clarkson (0.8, steady).

Others in the upward trajectory were Wendy Williams (7-week high 1.0, up 11%) and Ellen DeGeneres (1.0, up 11%).

Entertainment magazines also continued to shine in the wake of last month’s Oscar coverage. Access Hollywood (8-week high 1.0, up 11% in households and up 25% in the key W25-54 demo) and Extra (six-week high 0.7, up 17% in HH and up 33% in the target demo) grew the most. Entertainment Tonight (2.2, steady and up 13% in the demo) was No. 1 in the category.

Among game shows Family Feud (5.6, up 6%) was easily best, snaring the overall syndication top spot from the prior week’s pace-setter Judge Judy, which finished second on the chart this time around at a 5.3.

Further back Jeopardy (5.2, unchanged) featured journalist Bill Whitaker at the podium for a second week.
