Talkers Have Loudest Voices In Ratings Room

Talkers Have Loudest Voices In Ratings Room

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending January 15, 2023.

Four of the six highest-rated veteran talk shows surged in the session ending January 15th.

Leader Live with Kelly and Ryan (three-week high 1.7 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 6% from the week before) set the pace in the most closely-watched category for the 34th straight week.

Dr. Phil (1.5, up 15%), Tamron Hall (0.8, up 14% in households and up 33% to new high 0.4 in the key W25-54 demo) and Rachael Ray (0.7, up 17%) all delivered double digit increases in ratings.

Two magazines hit their loftiest ratings marks of the syndication year.  Entertainment Tonight (new season high 2.4, up 4%) moved into a first place tie with Inside Edition (2.4, unchanged) and Extra (new season high 0.7, up 17%) tied TMZ (0.7, unchanged).  Extra has been pretty exciting lately, leaping 40% in the past two weeks.

Among this season’s top syndication newcomers Sherri (0.7, up 17%) returned to original episodes after three weeks of reruns, while Jennifer Hudson (0.6, steady and up 50% among W25-54 to tie Sherri in the demo) blew by some of the year-ago ratings recorded by Ellen DeGeneres, which it replaced in several markets.

For instance, in Birmingham, Alabama, the country’s 45th largest market, Hudson (1.6 household rating at 2pm on WVTM) was up 60% from what Ellen did in ratings the same week last year.
