“Judge Judy” rules syndication in big week for court shows

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending November 1, 2020.

Court shows were the hottest genre in the Halloween week session ending November 1 with ratings monster Judge Judy (new season high 5.9 live plus same day national Nielsen, up 16% from the week before) eating everyone’s candy.

“Judy” was the highest-rated show of any type on the entire chart and the courtroom leader for a remarkable 1,258th straight week. In the advertiser coveted W25-54 target demo, the Judge Judy juggernaut jumped 25%.

Hot Bench (1.7, up 6%), which was created by Judge Judy Sheindlin and is poised to become the top-rated court show when “Judy” leaves first-run syndication next year, matched its season high.

People’s Court (1.2, up 9%) and Judge Mathis (0.9, up 13%) also improved.

On the downside, Jerry Springer’s Judge Jerry (0.7, down 13%) lost ground.

Among talkers Dr. Phil (1.9, down 5%) and Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.9, steady) tied for first place.

In access, some newsmagazines ran into preemptions for game six of the World Series and several football contests. The biggest movers were TMZ (0.8, up 60%), which rebounded from an all-time low in the prior frame, and Daily Mail TV (0.7, up 17%), which jumped into a tie with Extra (0.7, steady).

Jeopardy (5.4, up 8%), hosted by the late Alex Trebek, hit a new season high and finished second among game shows to Family Feud (new season high 5.8, up 9%).
