“Jeopardy” Regains Ratings Lead

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending July 31, 2022.

By a narrow margin Jeopardy (5.2 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 2% from the week before) turned the tables on Family Feud (5.1, down 2%) to lead the quiz and giveaway group and all of syndication in the session ending July 31. Feud was first in the prior frame.

Court show superstar Judge Judy (4.4, steady) and Wheel of Fortune (4.4, down 2%) were next in line.

Among talkers, Drew Barrymore (0.5, up 25%) was the only show moving up. Recently renewed for a third season, Barrymore also ballooned 25% from last year at this time and averaged almost 700,000 viewers each day with an all-repeat week. Live with Kelly and Ryan (1.5, steady) was the highest rated talk show, improving 7% from the comparable Olympic-titled week in 2021 and drawing an average crowd of more than 2.1-million daily viewers. Kelly and Ryan also ruled the highly competitive category in the advertiser-coveted W25-54 age group.

Extra (0.6, up 20%), which made headlines last week with the pending departure of powerhouse exec producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, had the strongest percentage moves among magazines in both households and the key demo (up 50% among W25-54). Theresa Coffino and Jeremy Spiegel, both seasoned Extra top execs, are expected to carry the show’s baton going forward.
