Hot rookies “Kelly Clarkson” and “Tamron Hall” ignite double digit rating rallies

Review based on a national syndicated rating report for the week ending December 22.

Rookie talk show stars Kelly Clarkson (1.5 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 15% from the week before) and Tamron Hall (1.0, up 11%) were syndication standouts in the session ending December 22.

“Clarkson,” already renewed for year two, was the season’s number one newcomer for the 15th straight week, scoring its biggest rating since its huge premiere week in early September despite being in repeats on most days.

“Hall” matched its highest numbers of the season and was the top rated show in its time period in major markets like Atlanta, where on WSB at 3pm it outperformed all competition.

Mel Robbins (0.4) the season’s third new talker, was unchanged for the 11th week in a row and finished far behind the top two.

Veteran talkers were led by Dr Phil (2.4, steady) for the 171st time in the past 172 weeks.

Live with Kelly and Ryan (new season high 2.2, up 10%) featured its first holiday-themed show, “Live’s Holiday Sweater Party,” and had its strongest showing since the week ending May 26. That tied Ellen DeGeneres (2.2, unchanged) for second place behind “Phil.”

At the top of the ratings chart Judge Judy (syndication best 6.6, down 1%) presided over all shows for the 20th time in the last 21 weeks despite being partially in reruns and one of several programs that ran into massive preemptions for the impeachment vote on December 18.

Magazines moving up were Access Hollywood (1.5, up 7%) and Daily Mail TV (0.9, up 13%). “Access” matched its season high and vaulted 17% in the coveted W25-54 demo. “Daily Mail” also equaled its best rating of the season and raced ahead 25% among W25-54.
