Dr. Phil (2.5 live plus same day national Nielsen rating, up 25% from the week before) jumped back into first place among talk shows with a healthy increase in the session ending December 8.
Just one week after being edged for the top honor for the first time in more than three years, “Phil” uncorked its second biggest number of the season and led the talkers for the 169th time in the past 170 weeks.
Red hot Live with Kelly and Ryan (2.1, steady) remained at its season high for the sixth week in a row and tied Ellen DeGeneres (new season high 2.1, up 5%) for second place.
Judge Judy (6.7, down 3%) improved 2% from last year at this time and crushed all shows for the 18th time in the past 19 weeks despite the fact that the program and others were preempted in some markets for impeachment announcements and hearings on December 4 and 5 and the Pensacola Naval Air Station shootings on December 6.
In access, all of the big six magazines were steady to higher. Leading the category were Inside Edition (2.7, up 4%) and Entertainment Tonight (2.6, stable). Access Hollywood (1.4, up 8%) popped with extended Royal Family coverage, racing ahead 17% in the coveted W25-54 demo. TMZ (1.1, up 22%) rebounded from a season low in the prior frame. Extra (0.9, up 13%) saw significant ratings growth and jumped 25% among W25-54 even though it was blacked out nine times in the top 14 markets due to football, and Daily Mail TV (0.8, steady) held its own despite preemptions.
