Magid is disrupting our own industry with our approach to data gathering, analysis and analytical tool-building. Do you know the nitty-gritty of how to use data to make a case? If so, we need you to be a part of it! EmotionalDNA® discarded old assumptions about what market research can and cannot do, and now we’re providing data-driven guidance for the critical issues facing our clients. EmotionalDNA® is applicable whenever people care about what they consume–and that covers a lot of territory! Currently we have a heavy, but not exclusive concentration in entertainment, and we are building out other areas with high potential.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

The Engineer’s work will include:

  • Building, owning and maintaining ETL processes and data pipeline architecture
  • Building, owning and maintaining APIs for internal and external use
  • Designing the backend data architecture that will scale to the growing needs of the product
  • Working closely with product development team to create technical strategy for growing EmotionalDNA®
  • Managing technical projects
  • Developing a POV and making recommendations on best practices and approaches

Job Qualifications:

Required

  • 5+ years relevant experience developing and implementing data pipelines and architectures
  • Experience in one or more programming language (e.g., Python, R, Java, C++, Perl, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of database design
  • Demonstrable experience designing, developing, and implementing ETL processes
  • Experience managing technical projects and troubleshooting technical issues
  • Familiarity with statistical models and principles
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working directly with data scientists
  • Experience supervising projects in data engineering, data science and/or data products
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Specific knowledge of PostgreSQL, and other relational databases
  • Knowledge of SQL language
  • General understanding of server requirements to host web applications and what is needed to evolve applications over time
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, CS, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Operations Research or equivalent experience

Nice to Haves (But not Required)

  • Masters degree or PhD in a technical discipline
  • Previous web development experience
  • Previous data science experience
  • AWS experience
  • Social programming experience (e.g. git)
  • Entertainment research experience
