Mobile VR Is A Reality

The time truly is now for content providers, distributors, game publishers, and brands to prioritize their VR initiatives and to be in position to ride the upcoming mainstream wave.

According to Magid’s 2017 Mobile Lifestyle Study, an annual study of 2,400 U.S. consumers that focuses on emerging trends in the mobile market, nearly one in four smartphone owners are now using mobile VR, an increase of over 30% since 2016.

It’s a nascent space, but consumers are forming habits and winners are starting to emerge. According to the study, consumers are currently expressing interest in VR movies (48%) and virtual travel (39%).

“VR is bringing a whole new level of excitement both from within the industry and with consumers,” says Tom Godfrey, a vice president at Magid. “Consumer uptake of new technology typically lags behind industry hyperbole, but that is not looking to be the case here. We are thrilled to be helping our clients develop VR products and services to meet customer needs in this evolving market.”
